Homeless Winter Weather Project

For I was hungry, and you gave me food; I was thirsty, and you gave me drink; I was a stranger and you took me in; I was naked, and you clothed me; I was sick, and you visited me; I was in prison and you came to me…

Once again, the Youth & Family Ministry is gearing up to start work with the homeless in Austin.  Our first project will be focused on winter weather survival.  Hundreds of homeless across the country die each year from cold weather.  We will be working with several non-profits to provide blankets, coats, and socks to the Austin homeless population.  We are asking for donations of coats and socks and fabric to make the blankets.  For the blankets we will need fleece in 3 yard lengths.    There will be a container for donations in the entryway and one in the gathering room starting September 6th. 

Beginning September 27th we will meet in the Godly Play classroom after church on the 4th Sunday of every month to make fleece no-sew blankets.  Once we have the donations collected and blankets made the children and I will pass the items out at ARCH.

Small Group for Parents

A small group is forming for parents.  This group will meet once a month for community fellowship.  Each meeting will involve fellowship, prayer and the study of a book.  The first book will be The Seven Spiritual Laws for Parents by Deepak Chopra. 

UCoA Parents Google Group

We have created a Google Group to serve our community of parents.  If you are a parent at Unity Church of Austin we strongly recommend you join this group.  Announcements about Youth & Family Projects and activities will be announced first to this group.  This group will also serve as a resource to parents and will include information about events around town, play dates, babysitters and general discussion.  To join this group, click here.
